Consumer Chemistry Series

Ages: 12-18 and Adults
Cost: $150 (lab-based teen workshops) and Free (public lectures)
Instructor: Lauren Monroe and local community leaders

Throughout the ages humans have developed lasting relationships with natural resources that nourish and augment our daily lives. We have learned how to avoid plants and minerals that do harm and cultivate plants and minerals that bring us benefit. This winter and spring series explores three different chemical compounds in three 4-week labs for teens and three accompanying free public lectures. All labs include presentations on basic human physiology and biochemistry, hands-on experimentation related to the featured compound, and discussion on cultural trends concerning its use.

This winter and spring series will highlight:
CAFFEINE
ALCOHOL
OPIATES
