Consumer Chemistry: Caffeine
Cost: $150 ($38 deposit)

Even if you don't personally drink tea, coffee or soda, it is hard to ignore the strong social and physiological pull that caffeine has on our society. From the early days of tea plant cultivation in China, to being able to sight a Dunkin’ Donuts on every city corner in the Northeast today, caffeine has us hooked! What are the benefits and what are the harms? Students will learn caffeines chemical properties, how it acts physiologically in the human body and carry out labs that extract caffeine from green and black tea. This caffeine series will include one free public lecture, Caffeine Chemistry, with David Fullerton of Acoustic Java on Thursday, 1/12, from 5-7pm.
