Creative Writing and Publication

We view writing as an art-form capable of expressing an enormous spectrum of colors by way of ink and paper. Passion and practice are among the important tools we use to keep the canvas alive. This class focuses on developing such tools to effectively translate thoughts, ideas and imagination into written form. Students will practice traditional and experimental writing techniques that will be applied to poetry/prose, fiction/non-fiction, dialogue/script-writing and journalism. As a group, students will verbally share their work and occasionally study notable poets and authors. Throughout a semester the class will visit different methods in publication as students learn how to edit, format, and prepare a collection of work for our established journal and one-sheet, FILAMeNT and FILAMeNT (abridged). Most written work will be done in personal notebooks (provided) and students will be asked to frequently document and save their work digitally. Occasionally, the class may walk to nearby Elm Park for a change of scenery.
