Improv and Sketch Acting (Spring 2014)

Students will be exposed to the art of improvisation through basic acting techniques and activities. Improv fosters the student’s ability to tap into their natural creative instincts while being non-judgmental and open to other ideas. Students will expand their imagination, increase spontaneity, learn to take risks and overcome fears. Classmates will learn to rely on and support each other as they problem solve in new and creative ways. As they explore their improvisational talents they will also work together to create comedy sketches and commercials similar to those seen on Saturday Night Live, Mad TV and (for those of you that remember) the Carol Burnet Show! Laughter and friendship are also two of the natural byproducts of studying the art of improvisation.
