Inspired by Science Fiction, Steampunk and Surrealism, create a series of linoleum block prints exploring tales of other worlds, dimensions and dreams. A linocut is a printmaking technique in which a design is cut into the linoleum surface with a sharp V-shaped chisel, inked with a brayer and then impressed onto paper. Each print is unique in its color, texture and contrast. Through this drawing, carving and printing process, students can illustrate imaginative landscapes and characters while developing skills in drawing, composition, carving and color theory. Students will be encouraged to develop their creative freedom as each print collection can be a treasure of fantasy battles, sweeping landscapes, gothic humor, beasts, fierce dragons or a world of beautiful or nightmarish visuals.
